Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Systems

Home

Overview: Research in the Liu lab lies at the interface of biology and engineering. Specifically, we are interested in addressing fundamental questions in the mechanobiology of biological membranes, with an emphasis on membrane trafficking and cell migration. We are interested in understanding how cells generate, sense, and respond to physical forces. We advance the field by building cell-like systems mimicking the mechanical and biochemical aspects of a cell. We employ tools and techniques in biophysics, microengineering, synthetic biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

Mentoring philosophy: I aspire to create a collegial, fun, respectful, and collaborative lab. I recognize that everybody has different needs and expectations and will incorporate different elements of training depending on a trainee's career path and ambitions. I see my role as a coach and will bring the most out of each person coming through my lab.
